Comets capture NNJIL A crown
The Hackensack boys’ track team captured its second consecutive NNJIL Division A championship. The Comets outdistanced themselves from second place Kennedy 129-103.
The meet took place at Clifton High School.
Hackensack was sparked by its hurdlers and jumpers, including Jermaine Boyd, Brandon Cobb, Lawrence Banton, Conroy Walker and Ausar Walcott.
Boyd was a double winner, taking gold in the 110 and 400 hurdles. Cobb was third in the 400 hurdles and triple jump, and Banton third in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the long jump.
Walker also had success in the horizontal jumps, finishing second in the triple jump, but also scored in the sprints. He was fifth in the 100 and fourth in the 200.
Walcott followed suit, winning the 400 and coming in third in the 200. The Virginia-bound Walcott also finished second in the long jump.
Thrower Debonair Clinkscales turned in two silver medal performances, finishing second in the shot put and discus.
Bergen Tech was fourth at the meet and was powered by Mike Mitchell, who placed second in the 2-mile and third in the mile.
