Baseball

Israel Bowers drove in the lone run for Bergen Tech, which dropped a 10-1 decision to Becton. The Knights were edged out by Passaic 4-3 despite a home run by Bowers. Eli Crozier hit a home run and drove in five runs as Bergen Tech defeated Belleville 11-4. Nick Bertinato picked up the win on the mound, while Bowers chipped in with three more RBI.

Teaneck lost a 12-9 slugfest against Bloomfield. Ryan Braemer had a home run and two RBI for the Highwaymen, and David Schwartz, Nick Hoffman and Matt Turner also had two RBI. Teaneck overpowered Barringer, winning the NNJIL contest 14-4. Anthony Berroa drove in four runs, and Schwartz knocked in two. Berroa picked up the win on the mound.

Softball

Hackensack stormed Barringer, winning a mercy-rule enforced 12-0 decision. Korey Kozaryn picked up the win and drove in two runs for the Lady Comets. Kim Melendez also had two RBI, and teammates Meghan Georgeou, Theresa Kaminsky, Sam Forder, Brittany MacDonald, Caroline Forder, Megan Cloidt, Yokie Germoso and Nicole Schider all had one RBI.

Bergen Tech fell short, 5-4, to Passaic. Megan Bosi and Stephanie Giordano had RBI for the Lady Knights. Belleville defeated Bergen Tech 15-2. Bosi drove in both runs for the Knights.

Hackensack defeated Memorial of West New York 3-2. Quinn Croland won his singles match for the Comets, and the doubles teams of Joshua Cesar and Charlie Lolak and Christian Coakley and Hakim Robinson also won. Lolak and Cesar won their match in Hackensack’s 4-1 loss to St. Joseph.

Bergen Tech rolled past Belleville 4-1 behind wins by Danny Zimnikov and Adam Scheps at singles. Doubles teams of Cody Hahn and Phil Park and Josh Givany and Artur Dutka also won.

Volleyball

Hackensack cruised past Passaic 25-12, 25-17 behind Ryan Sievers (15 kills) and Roberto Guzman (37 assists).

Teaneck lost to Kennedy 11-25, 25-23, 23-25. Jarett Walser had 10 kills to lead the Highwaymen, which was paced by Shaun Montoya’s eight assists. Chris Pisco added seven digs for Teaneck.

Track and Field

Hackensack and Teaneck girls’ track teams placed second in the NNJIL Division A and B meets, respectively. Leading the way for the Comets was Evana Edwards, who won gold in the 100 high hurdles and finished second and third in the triple and long jumps, respectively. Daequana Owen finished second in the 100-meter dash, fourth in the high jump and sixth in the long jump. Other top three finishers were: Chelsea Cash (second, javelin), Charnay Harris (third, javelin), Shelisa Campbell (third, high jump).

Teaneck was led by Janay Mitchell, who won gold in the 100 and 200-meter runs. Aderonke Bakare (400), Apresha Hampton (shot put), and Rachel Furman (discus) also took home the gold, and Julia Sylvester picked up a second (triple jump) and two fourth place finishes (long jump and high jump).

Bergen Tech’s Chelsea Gordon captured gold in the mile and 2-mile runs.

Sprinters Damian Miles and David Butler led the Teaneck boys’ track to the NNJIL Division B title. Miles picked up wins in the 200 and 400, while Butler won the 100 and finished second behind his teammate in the 200. Other winning Highwaymen were: Brandon Hambric (110 HH) and Jason Alexander (triple jump).
