Sharif named to state commission
Hackensack grassroots advocate Brownita "Sissy" Manning Sharif last week was appointed to the New Jersey Commission on Bullying in Schools. The appointment was made by State Senate President Richard J. Codey and announced by State Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Teaneck).
Sharif has been a longtime influential figure in Hackensack and is well known as a community liaison between local youth and law enforcement.
"Sissy Sharif is a calming force in Hackensack," said Weinberg.
"She has dedicated most of her adult life to working to ensure harmony and understanding among the children, the law enforcement and the entire Hackensack community. She has the experience and expertise we need to serve on the state’s first Bullying Commission."
Sharif was one of two candidates appointed by Codey for this commission. Dr. Sharon Rose Powell, of Princeton, was also appointed.
